National Committee for Geospatial Information Governance Holds its 3rd Meeting

The National Committee for Geospatial Information Governance held its third meeting chaired by Mr. Mohamed Ali AlQaed - Chief Executive of Information & eGovernment Authority (iGA) - to discuss the latest agenda and what has been accomplished in the past period.

During the meeting; studies of the best practices, standards and initiatives were discussed along with the approval of 24 initiatives of various fields. All initiatives aim at developing the Geospatial Information sector in the Kingdom while approving the formation of a mini-task force to set executive plans and submit them a month after committee’s meeting.

Some of the key initiatives implemented in the upcoming period by the task-forces include reviewing all MOUs of entities’ licenses in the government, enhancing geospatial data while ensuring that specifications and standards issued are being used to survey and monitor infrastructure sites as well as improve and develop geospatial database.

The task-forces will work on re-engineering a number of procedures and set a range of technical solutions to resolve issues that faced several entities. It will also set a timeline to migrate to the cloud, develop the cadre and build capacities for the public entities through training, awareness, etc.

The National Committee for Geospatial Information Governance was formed based on Resolution (15) for the year 2017 issued by HRH Prime Minister Prince Khalifa bin Salman Al Khalifa. The committee is established to propose policies and national strategic plans to develop the GIS sector, set relevant specifications and standards in addition to determine responsibilities and ownership of each entity. Furthermore, coordinate and gather information to maintain its quality and accuracy – ensuring updating as well as prevention of duplicating information.
