Procurement requests by government entities valued at approximately BD2.2 million were discussed at the 55th Information and Communication Technology Governance Committee (ICTGC) meeting, chaired by Information & eGovernment Authority (iGA) Chief Executive, Mohammed Ali Al Qaed and held via videoconference.

Al Qaed welcomed the attendees, thanking them for their continuous efforts. The Committee covered the items on its agenda, which included a range of topics.

The meeting included a discussion on the eWallet, an iGA project that was approved by the Cabinet. It aims to introduce an electronic wallet as an alternative to cash collection for government transaction fees, in line with the iGA’s efforts to accelerate the digital transformation of government services.

The Committee also reviewed the installation of digital chips in smart meters at the Electricity & Water Authority (EWA), which will enable the meters to remotely read consumption data in real-time and automatically spot any issues in the meters and/or discrepancies in consumption. The project is part of EWA’s plan to install smart meters across the Kingdom’s governorates.

Also on the agenda were projects and procurement requests related to improving IT services at several government entities. In addition, the Committee reviewed implemented decisions from previous meetings.

In attendance were iGA Deputy CE of Operations and Governance, Dr. Khalid Ahmed Almutawa; Ministry of Finance and National Economy Director of Financial Systems Development, Abdullah Ahmed Dhaif; Director of Services and Information Technology at the Prime Minister’s Office, Ahmed Al Qayem; University of Bahrain Dean of the College of Information Technology, Dr. Hessa Jassim Al Junaid, and Information Technology Project Management Consultant, Ali AlSoufi. The meeting was also attended by the committee’s support team.
