The Information & eGovernment Authority (iGA) achieved an Arab World milestone in a digital sector, winning in the ‘Excellence in Digital Transformation’ category at the 25th Sheikh Salem Al-Ali Al-Sabah Informatics Award. The Award’s Board of Trustees announced the selection of five winners. Two awards were granted to Kuwaiti organizations, with the remaining three Arab-level accolades going to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, and the Kingdom of Bahrain. These countries are recognized as leading Arab nations with global standing and are classified within the ‘Very High’ category of the United Nations E-Government Development Index (EGDI) 2024.

iGA Chief Executive, Mohammed Ali Al Qaed said this win reflects the continuous support from His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, King of Bahrain, and the directives of His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister, to Bahrain’s ICT sector.

Al Qaed also congratulated His Excellency Gen. Shaikh Rashid bin Abdullah Al Khalifa, the Minister of Interior and Chairman of the Ministerial Committee for Information and Communications Technology (MCICT). “This achievement is the result of a clear vision and a structured roadmap derived from Bahrain Economic Vision 2030, alongside the pivotal role played by the MCICT, chaired by the Minister of Interior,” he added. “These factors were instrumental in enabling the iGA to deliver its digital achievements, from developing and implementing digital policies, plans, and strategies, to launching and enhancing services and applications, developing national systems, and adopting emerging technologies, particularly AI, to advance government operations and improve service quality.”

Al Qaed highlighted the impact of His Excellency the Minister’s directives in strengthening Bahrain’s digital leadership and advancing its position in the United Nations E-Government Development Report. Since the establishment of the iGA in 2007, the Kingdom of Bahrain has maintained its regional and global digital leadership, consistently achieving a ‘Very High’ ranking in the United Nations report from 2010 through 2024. This sustained performance reflects full government support and the collective efforts of the iGA and its partners across the Kingdom to advance the ICT sector.

Al Qaed explained that one of the key contributors to the iGA’s win was its leadership in driving digital transformation across the Kingdom through a wide range of initiatives and national systems. “These efforts have contributed to enhancing quality of life for individuals and creating a highly prepared digital environment for government entities and the private sector,” he said.

Among the most notable achievements he pointed towards was the significant enhancement of the Kingdom of Bahrain’s National Portal, bahrain.bh, along with apps, the expansion of eServices, eParticipation platforms and public surveys designed to capture public feedback. He highlighted direct digital communication channels such as the National Suggestions and Complaints System (Tawasul) and the Tawasul app. In addition, Bahrain’s emergence as a regional hub for cloud computing and financial technologies has improved service efficiency and accessibility for beneficiaries, and strengthened the Kingdom’s standing among leading countries on the UN index.

Al Qaed expressed his sincere appreciation to all iGA employees for their roles in achieving this distinguished accomplishment. He praised their dedication and encouraged them to continue their efforts in order to realize further achievements that contribute to the continued advancement of the ICT sector.
