ID Card Uses
Among the uses of the ID card:
1. Verification of an individual's identity at governmental and non-governmental entities.
2. Travel within the GCC countries (for citizens).
3. Data and personal information storage for the cardholder.
4. Voting in elections.
Laws concerning the ID card:
Identity Card Photo Requirements
The ID personal photo must meet the following requirements:
1. The photo must be colored with a white background.
2. The photo must be recent and not more than six months old.
3. For ID card issuance services, updating the personal photo is mandatory if more than 6 months have passed since the last issuance.
4. The photo must capture the head and the top of the shoulders up close, with the face occupying 70% to 80% of the image.
5. The photo size must not exceed 3 MB.
6. The attached photo should be in one of the following formats: (gif, png, jpeg, jpg).
Address Update Conditions
The residential address is crucial for ID card services. The following requirements will be verified prior to service delivery.
1. The electricity and water account must be active in all cases.
2. If the applicant’s address has changed since the last ID card issuance, a request to update the address must be submitted.
3. For housing units provided by the Ministry of Housing and Urban Planning, registering the residential address for the unit is mandatory.
4. If the applicant owns a housing unit provided by the Ministry of Housing and Urban Planning, the property ownership must be registered with the Address Department. If the unit has been transferred or withdrawn, a clearance certificate issued by the Legal Affairs Department of the Ministry of Housing and Urban Planning must be submitted.
5. The head of the household with an active electricity and water account for a residential address must update the address for themselves and their family members to match the account number.
6. If an individual owns multiple residential properties with active electricity and water accounts, one address can be selected for registration on the ID card for themselves and their family, ensuring property ownership is registered with the Address Department at the Information & eGovernment Authority.
7. The residential address cannot be changed from an owned property to a rented property unless proof of rental, sale, or a municipal construction/renovation permit is provided.
8. If renting a property, the electricity account must be activated in the tenant’s name or a municipal address certificate must be provided if the electricity account holder covers the municipality and utility fees, ensuring the account holder is not registered at the same address in the ID card and civil registry system.
9. If the individual does not have a residential address with an electricity account and wishes to update their address to another property, the property owner must appear in person to sign a No Objection Letter according to the address requirements.
10. Non-Bahraini individuals registered with the Labor Market Regulatory Authority must first update their address through the "
Update Expatriate Employee Address - Remote Service" before submitting a request to update the address in the ID card and civil registry system.
11. In the event of a divorce between parents, a Custody Continuity Certificate issued within the last six months must be provided to register the address of children under 21 years according to the custodian’s residence. If the certificate cannot be provided, parents may sign a Custody Agreement Declaration, downloadable via the "
ID Card Declaration Forms" service.
12. Non-Bahraini residents with Investor Residency:
- The electricity bill for the residential address must be in the resident’s name.
- If the bill is in the property owner’s name who covers municipal and utility fees, a certificate from the municipality must be issued, ensuring the owner is not registered at the same address in the ID card and civil registry system.
- If living with relatives, the relationship must be first-degree, or the address must be under a partner in the same commercial registration, with a signed address declaration from the property owner.
13. Non-Bahraini residents with Golden or Platinum Residency:
- The electricity bill for the residential address must be in the resident’s name.
- If the bill is in the property owner’s name who covers municipal and utility fees, a certificate from the municipality must be issued, ensuring the owner is not registered at the same address in the ID card and civil registry system.
- If living with relatives, the relationship must be first-degree, with a signed address declaration from the property owner.
14. Any cases not mentioned above must be referred to the relevant department supervisor for appropriate action.
Identity Card Declaration Forms
Some ID card processes require a declaration submission based on the application status. They include the following documents:
● Declaration of Accommodation
● Declaration of Head of Household Transfer
● Declaration of Custody Agreement Between the Two Parties
● Declaration of Accommodation Transfer
Identity Card Validity
● The Identity Card is valid for 5 years from the date of issuance for individuals under 70 years old.
● The Identity Card is valid for 10 years from the date of issuance for individuals over 70 years old.
● ID card renewal applications are accepted up to one month before expiration. Submitting an application earlier than this period will be considered a request for a replacement due to loss or damage.
● The Identity Card's validity is separate from other documents such as passports and licenses, each with its own expiration date. A valid passport is required when renewing or replacing a lost/damaged Identity Card.
GCC Identity Card
● The GCC identity card for citizens of the GCC countries is activated with a residential address in the Kingdom of Bahrain according to the regulations.
● The ID card is only issued to GCC citizens residing in the Kingdom of Bahrain in the following ID Card branches: Isa Town branch and (Seef Mall - Muharraq).
● GCC nationals do not need to book an appointment to issue an ID Card.
● Personal attendance of the applicant is required.
● If all requirements are met, the ID Card can be issued immediately.
● The fee for issuing an ID Card is BD10.
● GCC residents are unable to travel using the issued ID Card.
● The ID Card cannot be utilized as an alternative to the driver’s license.
● The ID Card allows access to health centres, public and private hospitals, or any official organization in the Kingdom of Bahrain (ministries and governmental entities).
Identification Card for People with Disabilities
1. How can a user update the disability type on the ID card?
User disability information is sourced from the Ministry of Social Development through system integration with the Information & eGovernment Authority (iGA). Users must first ensure that the disability type is registered with the Ministry to guarantee automatic updates on the iGA ID card system.
If the case status is unregistered or undergoing verification in the Ministry's system, the individual must register it with the Ministry's Social Centers. For disability-related inquiries, please contact the Ministry of Social Development at 17102378.
2. What action is required if a user needs to have the disability type printed on their ID card?
If the disability type is registered with the Ministry of Social Development, it will automatically update the ID card data in the system. To have it printed on the ID card, the user can either request a new ID card or wait until their current one expires and then renew it through the
National Portal bahrain.bh.
3. Will the disability icon be displayed on the ID card?
The disability icon will be printed on the back of the card based on the disability information registered with the Ministry of Social Development.
