Tourism Survey

The Tourism Survey in the Kingdom of Bahrain is a comprehensive periodic study conducted by the Information & eGovernment Authority in cooperation with the Bahrain Tourism and Exhibitions Authority. It aims to provide reliable and systematic data from both the demand and supply sides to support decision-making, contribute to the development of the tourism sector, and help achieve Bahrain Economic Vision 2030. The survey follows the recommendations of UN Tourism (formerly UNWTO) to ensure data accuracy and international comparability.

Tourism Survey Objectives
•Collect detailed data on travel patterns, expenditure, and preferences of inbound and outbound travelers.
•Measure the contribution of tourism to Gross Domestic Product (GDP).
•Provide a statistical foundation for developing policies and plans to stimulate and develop the tourism sector.

The Tourism Survey consists of the following components:

1.Inbound Tourism Survey:
This survey provides data on trip characteristics, including the number of inbound visitors, country of residence, mode of entry to the Kingdom, number of visits, length of stay, trip organization method, main purpose of the trip, expenditure patterns, and other related indicators. The survey is conducted through field interviews with departing tourists at the King Fahd Causeway and Bahrain International Airport.

2.Outbound Tourism Survey:
This survey is conducted to collect data on residents traveling outside their usual country of residence. It aims to measure the volume and characteristics of outbound tourism demand, travel patterns, tourism expenditure, and trip purposes, in accordance with the concepts and definitions of UN Tourism.

3.Domestic Tourism Survey:
This survey collects data on residents undertaking trips within their usual country of residence. It aims to measure domestic tourism activity, travel behavior, and expenditure patterns, in line with UN Tourism methodologies.

4.Tourism Establishments Survey:
This survey collects data from establishments operating in tourism-related activities to measure tourism supply characteristics, as well as the economic and operational performance of the sector. It also supports the compilation of tourism indicators and the Tourism Satellite Account (TSA).

The tourism survey period extends from November 2025 to December 2027
