Procurement requests by government entities valued at approximately BD2 million were discussed at the 51st Information and Communication Technology Governance Committee (ICTGC) meeting, chaired by Information & eGovernment Authority (iGA) Chief Executive, Mohammed Ali Al Qaed and held via videoconference.

Al Qaed welcomed the attendees, thanking them for their continuous efforts. The Committee’s agenda covered a range of topics, such as providing the Electricity and Water Authority (EWA) with technical infrastructure required for smart meters, which read meters automatically without the need for site visits by meter readers, and offer functions for disconnections and reconnections.

The Committee also reviewed a Ministry of Transportation and Telecommunications project related to the renewal of local and international system licenses, which are essential to the new postal systems as they allow access to the United Nations Universal Postal Union (UPU).

Also discussed was the provision of satellite services to Bahrain TV channels at the Ministry of Information Affairs to ensure continuous world-class broadcasts. The broadcast link helped the committee achieve savings equal to 25% of the contract’s basic value. The broadcast bandwidth was revised by the ministry where they achieved 25% reduction on the original price.

The meeting also covered the provision of high-performance computers to the Ministry of Works, Municipalities Affairs & Urban Planning, which will better serve its engineering requirements. In addition, the Committee covered procurement requests related to upgrading IT services at other government entities and implemented decisions from previous meetings.

In attendance were ICTGC Vice Chairman and iGA Deputy CE of Electronic Transformation, Dr. Zakareya Ahmed AlKhajah; Ministry of Education Undersecretary for Policies, Strategies, and Performance, Nawal Al Khater; University of Bahrain College of IT Dean, Dr. Lamya Al-Jasmi; Ministry of Health Assistant Undersecretary for Public Health, Dr. Mariam Ebrahim Al-Hajeri; iGA Deputy CE, Operations and Governance, Dr. Khalid Ahmed Almutawa; Economic Development Board (EDB) Director of Corporate Services, Linda Mohammed Janahi; Representative of the Office of the Prime Minister, Ali Jassim Humood; and Information Technology Project Management Consultant, Ali AlSoufi.
