iGA and Payment International Enterprise Sign eKiosk Maintenance Agreement
09 Feb 2024
The Information & eGovernment Authority (iGA) signed an agreement with Payment International Enterprise (PIE) for the regular maintenance & support of self-service eKiosks. The move enhances the performance and efficiency of the iGA’s eServices and channels, ensuring their seamless operation. The signing ceremony was attended by iGA Director of Government Systems Development, Elyas Yusuf Abdulghaffar and PIE Founder and Board Member, Fawaz Ghazal.
iGA Director of Government Systems Development, Elyas Yusuf Abdulghaffar said the partnership highlights the iGA’s commitment to meeting the needs of citizens and residents by offering efficiency, quality, and speed, while ensuring sustainability. He acknowledged the support from the government, including His Excellency Gen. Shaikh Rashid bin Abdullah Al Khalifa, the Minister of Interior and Chairman of the Ministerial Committee for Information and Communications Technology (MCICT).
The agreement entails proactive maintenance of the eKiosks, part of a broader initiative to streamline government procedures and expedite service delivery. It covers continual updates and swift response to technical issues, ensuring the devices’ ongoing functionality and improved performance.
The eKiosks offer three main services: ID Card services (updating of ID Card chip data and the ID Card reader), eKey services (advanced level registration, update eKey profile, resetting of passwords and mobile number), and registration for Government Notifications system.
Abdulghaffar added that there was significant usage of these self-service devices during 2023. Over 1,186 individuals registered for the Government Notifications Service, a national platform for receiving official alerts about government transactions via SMS and email, which has resulted in a reduction of paper-based communication. In addition, more than 40,000 eKey service transactions have been conducted through the eKiosk in 2023, over 30,000 ID card updates, and more than 54,000 ID card chip data reading transactions. This indicates a growing trend in eService adoption and an increase in awareness among the public of these secure and reliable government service offerings.
The eKiosks offer numerous options for completing transactions in-person without the need for a prior appointment or assistance from service providers. They are notable for their precision and the secure, instant verification of users’ identities and fingerprints, along with technical efficiency improvements. They are installed across 10 locations in the Kingdom: branches of the Information & eGovernment Authority in Isa Town, Seef Mall's Muharraq branch, Mina Salman branch, the main branch of the Labour Market Regulatory Authority (LMRA), Ministry of Industry and Commerce, Social Insurance Organization (SIO), Traffic Services Center at Wadi Al Sail Complex, and post offices in Bahrain Mall, Budaiya, and Hamad Town.
Acting Managing Director at PIE, Shabbir Modi said the partnership with iGA is a testimony of our commitment towards delivering our strength on Kiosks and its support services. We are proud of our association with iGA and look forward working to bring innovative services to consumers.
