Information & eGovernment Authority (iGA) Chief Executive, Mohammed Ali Al Qaed received a delegation from Saudi Arabia’s General Authority for Statistics (GASTAT), led by President, Dr. Fahad Aldossari at the iGA’s headquarters in Isa Town. They discussed opportunities for cooperation in the field of statistics.

Al Qaed welcomed the guests, emphasizing the close ties between the two countries in various fields, and expressing his wishes that this visit should result in further success.

He highlighted the iGA’s experience in producing official statistics from administrative records, which is in line with best practice. He presented some examples of statistical surveys carried out by the iGA in cooperation with other government entities. These studies covered tourism and labor force statistics, and the National Health Survey. This is in addition to GCC surveys such as one measuring the impact of economic decisions taken by the GCC on the Kingdom of Bahrain.

Al Qaed briefed the delegation on the iGA’s population censuses. The latest, carried out in 2020, relied on administrative records to identify the main demographic, social, and economic traits of the population.

Dr. Aldossari praised the Kingdom of Bahrain’s rich experience in statistics, stressing the importance of exchanging information in this area and building a database of accurate and trusted statistics which empower decision-makers to set policies and formulate strategies across all sectors.

In attendance from the iGA was Population & Demographic Statistics Director, Duaa Sultan Alharban and Director of Economic Statistics, Noora Khamis Al-Saadoon. The Saudi delegation included GASTAT Director of Labor Market Statistic, Dr. Amani Albaqshi and Director of Protocol, Sultan Al Assaf.
