BD1.3 Million in Government Procurement Requests Discussed

Strategic projects and procurement requests by government entities valued at approximately BD1.3 million were discussed at the 40th Information and Communication Technology Governance Committee (ICTGC) meeting, which was held online, chaired by Information & eGovernment Authority (iGA) Chief Executive, Mohammed Ali Al Qaed.

Al Qaed expressed his aspirations for the new year to carry with it more achievements that benefit the country and the citizens, wished the committee further successes during the exceptional circumstances that the Kingdom and the whole world are experiencing.

At the beginning of its meeting, the committee agreed on choosing Dr. Zakaria Ahmed Al-Khaja, Deputy Chief Executive, iGA, as Deputy Chairperson of the committee, wishing him continued success.

The committee reviewed procurement requests, including an initiative to modernize the television archives at the Ministry of Information Affairs and upgrade its media archiving system through modern management and classification technologies. Artificial Intelligence will be used to improve search, retrieval, and backup copying of media material in line with International Telecommunications Union (ITU) standards.

The meeting also discussed the Births & Deaths certificate archival system at the iGA, which will calls for replacing paper archives with a categorized archiving system that enables easy and quick search. The project will enhance the quality of services offered to the public, including retrieval of Births & Deaths certificates.

The committee reviewed the latest version of the government’s website development standards, which will include the latest best practices in line with United Nations (UN) eGovernment Survey requirements, in addition to an updating of the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) to be in line with the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C).

The meeting covered a number of decisions taken during previous meetings, and a summary of the projects reviewed by the iGA’s Information Technology Project Review Team.

Al Qaed concluded the meeting by praising the efforts of the committee’s members and the continuous coordination among government entities.
