In relation to what has been recently circulated on social media and received by citizens and residents, the Information & eGovernment Authority (iGA) stated that these are scam text messages using official terms claiming to be “eGovBahrain” and “eKey” and not been sent by the iGA or its official accounts. Citizens and residents are strongly advised not to engage with such text messages or share any personal information through the links provided. The iGA also denied the rumors claiming that the National Portal, bahrain.bh had been breached, stating that this information is completely false.

The iGA also clarified that all official text messages sent under the names “eGovBahrain” or “eKey” would be strictly related to eGovernment services and transactions such as promoting eServices, service completion confirmation, authenticating login using eKey, etc. However, these messages will never ask users to provide personal or financial details through links.

The iGA urges citizens and residents who receives suspicious messages to contact the Government Services Contact Center at 80008001 or report the matter to the Cybercrime Directorate through the MyGov app or through the hotline 922.
